In 1990 two butterfly species will be reintroduced in The Netherlands: Maculinea teleius and Maculinea nausithous. The reintroduction will be carried out by the Nature Conservation Department of the Agricultural University Wageningen in co-operation with the Dutch Butterfly Foundation. Since the middle of the last century there have been many trials to reintroduce butterfly species both in The Netherlands as in Great Britain. Unfortunately many proved unsucccsful. One exeption is the reintroduction of Lycaena dispar in Great Britain, an experiment which failed however in The Netherlands. To avoid failures in the future a list of conditions has been drawn up and published in the Butterfly Conservation Plan. Among others attention is paid to planning, ecology, condition of stock population and follow-up.
