On the whole, largescale arable fields are unsuited for butterflies in the Netherlands. Fallow land could however be managed in such a way to become more favourable to butterflies. Necessary measures are the restoration of the infra-structure and scale reduction of fields. This can be achieved by laying out wooden banks and hedgerows. Improved management, especially regarding mowing and ploughing, will also enable butterfly species to return to agricultural land.
