Several species of Senecio serve as nectar plants for butterflies and are therefore suited as garden plants. S. jacobaea is a common plant which grows in dune regions of the Netherlands and is the food plant of Tyria jacobaeae. Having also good qualities as a nectar plant, S. Jacobaea will do well as an ornamental in gardens,
