In the province of Zeeland the Island Hompelvoet was formed from sand-banks after the construction of the Delta Works. This Island Is Just under 5 square kilometres in size with dune and grassland vegetation. Since 1990 birdwatchers have recorded butterfly observations on Hompelvoet. Due to the abundance of nectar plants and host plants, the small Island Is rich with butterfly species. At least 20 different species have been observed.
