In 1990 two butterfly species, Maculinea teleius and M. nausithous, which had become extinct In the Netherlands were re-introduced in the nature reserve "De Moerputten". After four years of annual monitoring, an evaluation is given of both species. M. teleius has colonized well although the population has not dispersed from its original site of re-lntroductlon. In 1993 there were over 900 specimens; this Is ten times as many as were released. The number of M. nausithous Initially decreased.In the following years however the population recovered to more than 200 butterflies, after having moved to and settled In an other site within the nature reserve.
