Nieuwe soort in Nederland

An exciting discovery was made in southern Limburg in 1993. More than 20 specimens of Mellicta aurelia were observed, a species never seen before in the Netherlands. It is unlikely that the butterflies flew in from distant populations in Germany or Belgium. Most probably the species was introduced.
