Recently the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture. Nature Management and Fisheries has presented the Red List of Butterflies. The number of butterflies on this list is alarming. Two-thirds of all the butterfly species in the Netherlands are either extinct or threatened. Allocation to the different categories of the Red List is determined by the rarity of the species and the decline in the past century.
