Trek Dagpauwoog langs Hondsbossche Zeewering

This summer (1995) reports came in of vast numbers of migrating Peacocks (Inachis io) from many parts of the Netherlands. Especially along the coastline, numerous butterflies were seen flying due south. Migratory behaviour of the Peacock occurs Irregularly but is not uncommon. The reason for the sudden outbreak is not clear but may have to do with the butterflies fleeing the drought and heat, and searching for new feeding sites.
