The Queen of Spain Fritlllaiy (Issoria lathonia) is the most common of all Fritlllaries occurlng in the Netherlands. The species is predominantly found among the coastal dunes, breeding on Viola curtisii. Each year there are sightings of the butterfly further Inland, but these are nearly always wanderers. In September and October 1995, larger numbers of the Queen of Spain Fritlllaiy were seen, indicating populations do exist further inland as well. They occur In stubble-fields with the foodplant Viola arvensis.
