Nettles are the foodplant of several common butterflies, such as the European Map, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock, and the Comma. Despite their general occurrence, very little is known about the requirements these butterflies have for their foodplant. For this reason, a request has been launched to send in all information and observations concerning nettle feeders in urban areas. A brief description of the butterfly species is given, with special attention on how to recognise the caterpillars.
