The nomenclature of butterflies is often a subject of debate among entomologists. The scientific name of a species consists of the generic name and the specific name. In 1996, Karsholt and Razowski published a new taxonomic classification list for the Lepidoptera in Europe, in which for a number of butterflies the name of the genus has been changed. Dutch Butterfly Conservation will be using the new scientific names from now on and proposes that amateur naturalists in the Netherlands do likewise.
