A brief description of the feeding behaviour of butterflies and moths, both in the caterpillar as in the imago stage. Practically all butterflies live off plants, the adult by drinking nectar or other plantfluids through its proboscis, the larva by feeding on the leaves. The amount of nutrients and the presence of toxines in the plant determine the rate of development of the caterpillar on the foodplant.
