The three closely related species Colletes hederae, Colletes halophilus and Colletes succinctus are considered oligolectic. They forage on other plants during scarcity. The males are less particular than the females when it comes to foraging. When colonies are close together and and they forage on other plants, this can lead to confusion for an entomologist.
