Cretaceous reworked flints in the Upper Maastrichtian Chalk tuff near Maastricht which are colonized by contemporaneous Foraminifera, Bryozoa, Serpulids and other epibionts prove that they were completed as consolidated flint nodules at that time and that their origin was confined at the zone of Belemnitella junior. These findings let to the critical review of arguments in favour of both early or late diagnesis flint origin hypothesis. It is shown that certain examples cited currently in the literature have lost much of their cogency. Because the space is too limited to discuss all these questions based upon the authors newer researchs in detail, it must be referred to the extensive paper on this topic (VOIGT 1979,).
