The Nature Reserve Zwillbrocker Venn, situated immediately at the Dutch border in the province of Borken, GFR, is a moorland area of about 150 ha, containing numerous peat-bogs, most of which are overgrown with Sphagnum. Having collected dragonflies there since 1965, I observed for the first time a male Aeshna subarctica Walk, on August 29, 1976, and another male on September 11, 1977. Probably these were migrating specimens, although this place offers most adequate habitat conditions. Since 1975 I observed several Aeshna juncea (L.) in every year, and collected one male specimen. Both species have not been reported before from the Zwillbrocker Venn, but in 1926 both were caught some 30 km away.
