Exepl for some incidental records by G.D. BHAS1N (1953. Indian Fores! Ijeafl. (N.S.) 121: 63-79). M. PRASAD (1976, News!, zooi Sure. India 2: 142) A. KUMAR & M. PRASAD (1977, Odonatologica 6: 19-20), and R. RAM & M. PRASAD (1978, Notul.odonatol. I: 25-26), the odonate fauna of this part of the state has not been explored adequately. The present communication (35 species, referable to 28 genera of 5 families) is based on collections made by the authors in the Azamgarh, Ballia, Gorakhpur and Deoria districts of the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, gathered mainly in sugarcane- and paddy fields, or in temporary and permanent water bodies. The species recorded from the region earlier are asterisked. Coenagrionidae: Aciagrion pallidum.Sel.*, Agriocnemis p. pygmaea (Ramb.), Ceriagrion coromandelianum (Fab.), Coenagrion dyeri Fraser, Enallagma parvum Sel., Ischnura a. aurora (Br.)», I. senegalensis (Ramb.), Pseudagrion decorum (Ramb.), P. microcephalum (Ramb.), P. rubriceps Sel., P. spencei Fraser, Rhodischnura nursei (Morton). In addition to these, Ceriagrion cerinorubellum (Br.) was observed on wings at Ramagarh Lake, Gorakhpur, but the authors were unable to collect any specimens.
