After a short disease, professor Saitoh departed from us on 25 November 1998, at the age of 71. He was one of the most prolific insect chromosome workers in Japan. Kazuo Saitoh was bom on 10 February 1927, at Hirosaki, Aomori prefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. In March 1951 he graduated at the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University, and was awarded the Doctorate of Science, by the same University, in 1960.
