A Merlin Falco columbarius captured a Kentish Plover Charadrius hiaticula that had been foraging in a small flock in the Wadden Sea in northern Groningen. The flock commenced foraging soon afterwards, but the Merlin lost its prey to a passing Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus that disturbed the sitting Merlin. The Merlin soon dropped its prey during the aerial pursuit, upon which the Peregrine started plucking immediately.
