The specimens reported by Bogi & Galil (1999) as Timoclea roemeriana from the Bay of Haifa, Israel, belong in fact to the species Timoclea marica according to the number of grooves on the inner margin of the lunule. This identification has been confirmed by the find of additional valves off Palmahim, Israel. A follow up study is needed to show whether this Indo-Pacific species, which also occurs in the Red Sea, has established a viable population in the Eastern Mediterranean.
