According to the Sunday Times of 23 February 2003 developers in western London have to respect the prior rights of the landsnailspecies Balea biplicata and Pseudotrichia rubiginosa on the Thames embankment. According to this Sunday newspaper these species are not legally protected but do figure on the Red Data List of rare species.
