In memoriam dr. D.S. Brown (1935-2004)

This short appreciation of the noted malacologist David Seymour Brown draws attention to his highly important work on African freshwater snails and is not meant to be a fully fledged obituary. In fact, this article is a mixture of basic data and personal reminiscences. Incidentally, his book on the freshwater gastropods of Africa makes him qualify as one of the most important freshwater malacologists of the past century.
