A specimen reported as Nerita (Theliostyla) sanguinolenta from the Great Bitter Lake by Barash & Danin (1973), has turned out to belong to Theodoxus (Neritaea) niloticus, a freshwater species, now restricted in its distribution to the Nile and the irrigation canals connected to that river. Nerita sanguinolenta has therefore to be deleted from the checklist of marine molluscs living in the Great Bitter Lake.
