The confused nomenclatorial history of Hiatavolva brunneiterma (Cafe, 1969) and records of this species in the literature and on websites have been enumerated. Although it has been recorded so far from about 10 localities, these are scattered over a wide range throughout the Indo-Pacific: from the Red Sea and Mozambique in the West to the Fiji Islands in the East. Its presence in the Red Sea has been documented by two records of material collected alive in the Gulf of Aqaba.
