Some comments are given on the publication of part 3 (Molluscs) in the series: CIESM Atlas of exotic species in the Mediterranean. Although this will be the handbook on this subject in the years to follow, it is already outdated due to the fact that more than 50 additional species were either overlooked or have been recorded or found since its publication. The book suffers also from incorrect citations of the literature. The incorporation in the book of Alvania dorbignyi as an exotic species is discussed. Any evidence is lacking that this species or any other representative of the genus Alvania is living in the Red Sea. Therefore it is here considered an endemic Eastern Mediterranean species.
