The find of a shell of Discus rotundatus in a faecal pellet of a Green woodpecker ( Picus viridis) in a forest near Bergen, North- Holland, the Netherlands, is briefly described. The question is raised whether this was a case of direct predation on a living snail by the Woodpecker or that the latter swallowed inadvertently an empty shell together with its real prey: a large number of ants, which it had licked up with his sticky tongue from an ant-nest.
