A summary obituary of Dr. Adolf Zilch (1911-2006), who died at 94 on the 1st of January of this year, stresses the enormous importance and influence of his major treatise on the Euthyneura (1959-1960), his editorial work for the Archiv für Molluskenkunde (1936-1980), his mollusc type lists of the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt am Main, and his work on the extensive collections of this museum. Dr. Zilch was also instrumental in fostering international contacts, e.g. being involved in the start of Unitas Malacologica Europaea, where he was secretary of the council in the years 1965-1971.
