Hitherto four species of the genus Succinea were accepted as belonging to the fauna of the Netherlands, among them the S. elegans of Risso. The conclusions of the author are that Risso’s species from southern Europe, does not occur in our regions. Specimens identified as Risso’s species are large forms of S. Pfeifferi Rossm. The differences, indicated by Ehrmann are very important to recognize S. putris and S. Pfeifferi. S. arenaria is accepted as a valid species, which is rather common along the coast of some of our islands.
