The Genotype of Orthalicus Beck, 1837 (Bulimulidae)

Pilsbry 1899 (p. 186) and later authors accepted Helix sultana Dillwyn, selected by Gray November 1847 (p. 176 N° 470), as genotype of Orthalicus Beck, 1837. But Gray’s type selection is anticipated by Herrmannsen September 1847 (Vol. 2, p. 159). Herrmannsen selected Bulimus zebra Müll. (= Buccinum zebra Müller, 1774) as genotype of Orthalicus. The dates of issue are published in Herrmannsen 1852 (p. IV).
