A review of some Neritidae from the Miocene of France revealed that Nerita morio Dujardin, 1837, is in need of a new name. Nerita morio was described by Dujardin (1837: 280) from the Pontilevian of the Loire Basin. Is was excellently redescribed and figured by Glibert (1949: 81, pl. 4 figs, 11a-c). However, the name N. morio Dujardin, 1837, is a junior homonym of Nerita morio (Sowerby, 1832). Although described by Sowerby (1832: 201) as a species of Neritina, it is in reality a true Nerita with a very restricted distribution (Ducie and Easter Islands).
