Venus fasciata (Da Costa, 1778) (Bivalva, Veneridae) in The Netherlands In 1986 the author collected a right valve of Venus fasciata (Da Costa, 1778), washed ashore at Schiermonnikoog, The Netherlands. Investigations made clear that in 1958 and 1974 valves of this species were also found at Terschelling and Ameland. All these specimens are not fresh. Fossil valves have been reported from Eemian and early Pleistocene deposits in the southern part of the North Sea.
