The occurrence of the tropical freshwater snail Melanoides tuberculatus in the Twenthe canal in the vicinity of Henglo (Province of Overijssel, The Netherlands) was monitored during the period August 1992 – September 1993. The species lived in a cooling water discharge plume which appeared to be a refugium for this thermophilic animal during the winter period.
