The author refers to a documentary shown on BBC II in which the threat of extinction of the Pacific snail genus Partula is described that resulted from the introduction of a predator of Achatina fulica, which voracious snail had become a pest in various Pacific islands. Unfortenately that predator also attacks Partula and decimated its populations. A succesfull breeding program provided enough individuals to permit re-stocking of Partula in its original native areas.
