Een malacologisch letterkundige

In het afgelopen nummer van het CB (288, pag. 12) haalt G.J. Boekschoten een stukje aan uit Die Zeit, waarin vermeld wordt dat op de antiquarenmarkt te Brunswijk een boek van Edgar Allan Poe werd aangeboden voor 2800 DM. Het gaat om: ”Conchologist’s First Book: or a system of testaceous malacology, arranged expressly for the use of schools, in which the animals, according to Cuvier, are given with the shells, a great number of new species added, and the whole brought up, as accurately as possible, to the present condition of science"". Voorwaar: men hield niet van korte titels in die tijd.
