During his holiday in central France, the author discovered to his surprise that Margaritifera margaritifera, the Freshwater Pearl Mussel, is still present in a few little rivers in the upper reaches of the Dordogne river system on the French Massif Central. He collected a few empty shells in la Méouzette. In l’Andelot, one of the tributaries of the Loire river system, he collected many freshly looking valves and some complete (dead)specimens of Potomida littoralis, a predominantly mediterranean freshwa ter mussel that also lives in the greater part of France.
