Results of an inventory made by members of the Dutch malacological society (Nederlandse Malacologische Vereniging, NMV) in the river Rhine at the Dutch-German border and in the foreland of the river near Millingen aan de Rijn are given. In the Rhine samples were taken in the shallow part of the river between the groynes. The bottom consisted of (muddy) sand and clay banks. A list of species found in the river is given in table 2. The foreland malacofauna was mainly examined in woodland with an undergrowth of herbs, except location 4, where stones (for bank protection) were examined. In table 4 the results of the inventory in the foreland are summarized.
