(Life history variation in the gastropod genus Lavigeria (Thiaridae) from Lake Tanganyika) We describe variation in brood and embryo sizes for seven, mostly sympatric, Lavigeria (Thiaridae) species from Lake Tanganyika. Our analyses show that there are differences in reproductive strategies between the species. There are species with fast developing broods consisting of a large number of small offspring, and species with large offspring in small broods. Variation in reproductive strategy between populations of the same species was not detected in this study. There seems to be a trade-off between the maximum brood size and maximum embryo size. Most species have a similar allometry for this relationship.
