Additional note on snails in Heerhugowaard. According to the observations of Burger introduced snails of the genera Candidula and Cernuella, which were present in gardens and shrubberies in one of the new suburbs of Heerhugowaard, Noord-Holland, since the 70s, have not been found alive since 1985. However, according to my own observations colonies of Candidula intersecta (1) and Cernuella virgata (8) were still present in one of the other new quarters of this still expanding village in 1994. The presence of additional colonies in (private) gardens may be expected elsewhere.
