Pseudunio auricularia: things will take a turn. The freshwater pearlmussel Pseudunio auricularius (Spengler, 1793) is on the brink of extinction in Europe (Araujo & Ramos, 2000). Few data concerning former population-size are known, but according to De Rochebrune (1904) a button-industry was based solely on the presence of this species in the river Charente, in Lhoumeau, a suburb of Angoulême, Département de la Charente, France. In a footnote attention is paid to two musselspecies described by A. Locard in De Rochebrune’s publication: Unio yliscerus and Anodonta bouvieri.
