On 30 December 2016, in the early afternoon, an adult male Goshawk was recorded that landed in a willow close to an ice hole in a pool along the river Meuse. This bird repeatedly hovered over the hole (see photos), rather clumsily but without wetting its feet. As the ice hole did not contain any waterbirds, it was thought that the bird may have been fishing. The bird disappeared after three failed hovering sequences.
