In 2015, a Kestrel pair occupied a natural cavity (c. 4.8 m height) in a Fagus sylvatica on the estate Huys ten Donck near IJsselmonde (western Netherlands). Four chicks fledged on 29 June. The chicks were fed with voles (Microtus arvalis, Myodes glareolus). In The Netherlands the large majority of Kestrels breed in nestboxes, and nesting in tree cavities has been only rarely recorded (but perhaps under-recorded, given the lacking incentive to search for Kestrels not breeding in nestboxes).
