Consumptie van zaden van de Bosrank Clematis vitalba door Goudvinken Pyrrhula pyrrhula

Dijkstra A. 2013. Bullfinches Pyrrhula pyrrhula feeding on seeds of Clematis vitalba. In the winter of 2012/13, a male and female Bullfinch were recorded feeding on the seeds of Clematis vitelba in a garden in the town of Assen, northern Netherlands. The birds were rather adapt at extracting the seeds, unlike Bramblings Fringilla montifringilla which were unable to extract the small seeds from the fluffy seed heads. Even so, Bullfinches spent little time feeding on Clematis, and mostly so when conditions were adverse (snowfall).
