Although the Garlic snail Oxychilus alliarius is common in the Netherlands, until 1978 it was virtually absent from Limburg, the Netherlands’ southernmost province. Between 1978 and 2000 records were almost restricted to the central part of this province. In the first decennium of this century the Garlic snail was encountered in the northern part of the province. More recently, in 2010 and 2011, the species was found in six places in the South of Limburg. These new records are considered an expansion of the distribution area of this species in the Netherlands.
