Up to 50% of the shells of adult Roman snails, Helix pomatia Linnaeus, 1758 collected near Tschiertschen (Graubünden, Switzerland) showed shell repair, sometimes even of large holes. Origin of the damage was probably not failed predation, but traffic, cattle, walkers and certainly falling rocks, or falling on a rocky bottom. Roman snails, being very capable of repairing their shells, are adapted to live in such dangerous habitats.
