In 2013 it was suggested by De Bruyne et al. that the number of observations of the bivalve Ennucula tenuis in the Dutch North Sea was decreasing. However, in 2015 the species was found in several places in the North Sea. Re-examination of previously reported specimens of Nucula nitidosa showed that misidentified E. tenuis were among those specimens. Consequently, E. tenuis is more common than recorded.
